Conversely, accommodation near an airport may be far from the places you want to explore. Before booking, find the exact property on a map and identify the station, airport or bus stop you will use. Write down your arrival time, check-in policy and whether late-night transport is available for your plan. A low room price can become expensive when you add transfers, meals and taxes.
For hill destinations such as Munnar or Wayanad, review road access, weather conditions, travel breaks, luggage and any local restrictions that may affect the itinerary. Do not assume a route will take the same amount of time in every season; check an up-to-date navigation service and official travel advisories when planning. For Alappuzha houseboats, verify the boarding point, actual sailing/overnight schedule, meals, AC usage hours and what is included in the contract.
Compare the total journey: origin and destination airports/stations, departure date, baggage, seat options, transit time, cancellation and rescheduling charges. Two hotels can advertise the same nightly rate but different actual charges. Compare taxes, meals, extra-person charges, refundable deposit, check-in/out times, child policies, modification fees and the deadline for free cancellation. A listing marked “pay at property” may still require card details or have a cancellation penalty. Take a screenshot or save the official checkout terms you accepted, especially if you need a specific room type, parking or accessibility features.
Before paying, check the total cost for the whole stay rather than a single-night headline. For homestays, identify the host, access instructions, kitchen rules and emergency contact arrangements.
